Senior Farmer's Market Nutrition Program
Nevada receives funding from the USDA Food and Nutrition Program each spring to provide free coupons for fresh fruit and vegetables to Carson City seniors 60 years of age and older, whose annual income does not exceed $20,036 for an individual who receives one booklet or $26,955 for a couple who receive two booklets. The program is a cooperative effort by USDA, RSVP, the Nevada Department of Administration – Commodity Food Distribution Program, the Nevada Department of Agriculture, the Nevada Certified Farmers’ Market Association and the Nevada Division for Aging Services, whose purpose is to increase the consumption, production and distribution of locally grown fruits, vegetables and fresh unprocessed herbs, while supplementing nutritional needs for seniors.
Each eligible senior will receive 15 - $2.00 coupons redeemable for fresh fruits and vegetables at local Farmer's Markets. The free coupons will be distributed in the lobby of the Carson City Community Center on June 17. Applications are now available at the Carson City Senior Center and at the RSVP office, 3303 Butti Way, Building 1.
